This page explains what MomBloom stores in your browser, why, and how to change your mind. It is short because there is not much to explain: the site runs one analytics tool and nothing else.

What is always on

These are needed for the site to work. None of them identify you, and no privacy law requires us to ask permission for them.

  • NEXT_LOCALE — remembers which language version you are reading.
  • mb-region — records which consent rules apply where you are. Its entire value is the word "strict" or "notice". Expires after a day.
  • mb-consent — remembers the choice you made about analytics, so we stop asking. Expires after six months.
  • Two short-lived flags in your browser’s session storage: one so a page view is counted once rather than on every refresh, one so the site can recover when a script fails to download. Both disappear when you close the tab.

What we ask about

Google Analytics 4, and only that. It tells us which articles are read, roughly which country readers are in, and whether they arrived from a search or a link. We use it to decide what to write next.

  • _ga and _ga_<measurement id> — set by Google Analytics to tell one browser from another. Google’s default lifetime is two years.

Google processes this on our instructions, but Google also uses data from its own services for its own purposes. That is why we treat analytics as something to ask about rather than assume. You can read Google’s privacy policy.

What we do not do

  • No advertising or retargeting cookies.
  • No social media pixels. The share buttons are ordinary links that do nothing until you click them.
  • No cross-site tracking, no data brokers.
  • We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for targeted advertising, in the sense those words carry in US state privacy laws.

How we ask

Where you are changes what the law requires, so it changes what we do.

  • In the EU and EEA, the UK, Switzerland and Canada, analytics stays off until you say yes.
  • Everywhere else analytics starts on, we tell you it is running, and one click switches it off.
  • On our self-test pages analytics stays off until you say yes, wherever in the world you are. If you already said yes elsewhere on the site, we still ask once more there — agreeing to be counted while reading an article is not the same as agreeing to be counted while taking a mental-health self-test.
  • If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we read it as a no, act on it, and do not show you the banner at all.

Changing your mind

"Your privacy choices" at the bottom of any page reopens the panel. Turning analytics off takes effect immediately and deletes the Google Analytics cookies already in your browser. You can also block or clear cookies in your browser settings — the site keeps working either way.

Changes to this page

If we ever add something that stores data in your browser, this page changes first and the banner asks again.
